How Elvis ERP helps in improving an organization’s performance

The ability of an Elvis ERP system to provide the same updated and accurate information across different functions is what makes the application so valuable to enterprises. Let’s take the example of a customer order to understand this better: Before the advent of Elvis ERP applications, once a customer order was placed, it had to follow a paper trail from department to department – with details of the order being entered and re-entered into the applications of the different departments. This manual process was prone to errors and delays; till the order was entered into the application of a particular department, the goods could not be manufactured or shipped.

With an Elvis ERP system, a customer order is entered only once, and this information is available to all the applications across different functions. Once the order is entered, the application checks if goods are available in the inventory. If the goods are not available, it raises a purchase order which is subsequently used by the production team to manufacture goods, and by the finance team to issue an invoice. The produced goods go back into inventory, where they then become available for shipment. This single view of demand and supply enables organizations to better understand the needs and demands of the customer - and actually anticipate their requirements. This information can then be used to forecast future demands. This shortens lead time, reduces the overall cost of manufacturing, and ensures enhanced customer satisfaction.

The advantage of ERP is the fact that people in different departments can all see the same information, and update relevant information. As soon as one department finishes its part of the order, the ERP system forwards it to the next concerned department, which is defined in the workflow. To understand the status of an order, anyone in the organization can simply login to the ERP system. Web-based access can also be provided to customers who want to track down the order status.

 Benefits of Elvis ERP
Apart from the low cost of ownership and savings achieved by standardizing one application to manage multiple business functions, usage of ERP promises much more. With a successful implementation of an ERP system, top management can have a consolidated view of sales, inventory and receivables at the same time.

 Other significant benefits include:

Improved visibility: Due to the centralized nature of ERP systems, organizations can track inventory levels on a daily basis, including inventory in transit and future consignments to be received. This visibility can enable organizations to control their working capital requirements to a great degree. This visibility also enables organizations to run their enterprise in accordance with their strategy, while empowering them to make quick decisions to pursue opportunities.

Reduced operating costs: One of the most immediate benefits from implementing an ERP is reduced operating costs: such as lower inventory control costs, lower production costs and lower marketing costs. By avoiding duplication of information but not reinventing the wheel for common business processes, an ERP provides opportunities for cost reduction and value-added tasks, leading to increased margins.

Standardized business processes: Most ERP vendors design their products around standard best-business processes, which are based on industry best practices. Organizations can use these business processes to standardize their own processes. This process consistency allows a consolidated view of the business across the distributed enterprise, enabling organizations to drive continuous improvements, as operations are streamlined and there is healthy synergy between departments and functions. The improvement also comes from transparency and reduction in human errors due to automation of inter-company transactions.

 What ERP entails

ERP requires a huge amount of planning, co-ordination and support to reap the promised benefits. For instance, at the heart of any ERP system is information – if the information is entered incorrectly, the ERP system cannot deliver benefits. ERP is also about process – if employees in an organization resist the best practices in the process as underlined by the ERP, they will resist using the software, eventually resulting in poor ROI.

As implementation of ERP changes the way people work, top management has to be proactive in explaining the reasons for, and how the organization as a whole will benefit from the implementation. A proper change management initiative can lower the potential risk of an ERP implementation, through a comprehensive communication and training process. To reap the full benefits of ERP, organizations need to partner with competent, proven service providers, with the technical and functional experience and expertise to ensure successful implementation.

 Conclusion

An Elvis ERP implementation done right, can build the foundation for future growth, and translate into improved productivity, cost savings, and a much better bottom line.

Release of the much awaited Windows 10 on July 29th

July 29th this year will be the release of the much awaited Windows 10. In this version, the much beloved Start Menu will make a return, while Cortana and many new security enhancements will also be seen in the update. The update is a free download for the Windows 7 and 8 users, while Windows 7 users may have to claim it in advance.

Here are 10 things you need to know about the software giant’s latest OS.
1. Customers running Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 will be able to upgrade to the next-generation OS for FREE
2. Operating across all PCs, Tablets and Smartphones, it will feature the return of the Start Menu (which was removed in Windows 8), complete with new Live Tile animation.
3. Windows Hello provides access to your devices via biometric authentication with your face, iris, or finger. It greets you by name and with a smile, letting you log in without a password and providing instant, more secure access to your Windows 10 devices.
4. Windows 10 will incorporate a new browser called ‘Edge’ – although the ageing Internet Explorer will also be bundled with Windows 10.
5. It will offer a rival to Apple’s Continuity feature called, innovatively enough, Continuum. So you can pick your work from a Windows Phone or tab to a Windows desktop right where you left off. Your Windows Phone will adjust to the Windows desktop screen when the two are connected.
6. Personal assistant Cortana – a rival to Apple’s Siri – is now more deeply integrated with the Start menu. Cortana will take over once you search in Start Menu and come back with the results. It will also answer questions while a user is still typing and you can apparently ask it for a joke!
7. Just as Apple’s OS X comes loaded with iTunes, Movie-maker, the Photos app, etc. Windows 10 will also come with Music and Video Preview which are getting an update, including a full screen for the Music app. The Video Preview app will now be able to re-download videos any number of times for up to three devices. Microsoft says it plans to increase the number of devices that users can download on.
8. Office on Windows gets a makeover with Windows 10 users able to experience new universal Windows applications for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, all available separately. One improvement is that you can create or update spreadsheets in Excel without a keyboard or mouse. You will also be able to enjoy new versions of OneNote and Outlook, which are included with Windows 10 at no additional cost.
9. The Xbox App for Windows 10 has new features like Game DVR for PC games, screenshots, a Live Tile, user profiles, and real-name sharing. Also users will no longer need to separately download drivers for the Xbox controller as they will be pre-installed on this build.
10. With Windows 10, Microsoft wants to gain one billion new users. In order to do that, the company is making it easier for Android and iOS apps to run on Windows 10 and has released four new Software Developer Kits (SDKs) supporting apps written in Web, .Net and Win32, Android C++/Java and Apple iOS Objective C. This will allow developers to bring all their apps to Windows 10 platforms.

Education in ancient india

TakshaShila is a City in ancient India, the site of the ancient world's supposed first international university (c. 800 BCE - 550 CE). It is described as the wealthiest city in India. The designation "Taksha" symbolizes the abiding ideals of solid and deep-rooted respect for teachers, unfettered freedom of thought, learning of different streams of knowledge, excellence in education, and extraordinary discipline, that prevailed at the ancient University.

Some scholars date TakshaShila’s existence back to the 8th century BCE. It was known as a centre of learning at least several centuries before Christ, and continued to attract students from around the ancient world until its destruction in the 5th century CE. At ancient Takshashila University, 10,500 students who came from within India and outside (Babylonia-now Iraq, Greece, Egypt, Syria, Asia Minor-now Turkey, Arabia, and China), to be taught by nearly 2000 master-teachers. The curriculum consisted of some 68 elective courses, including philosophy, law, state-craft, defence, warfare strategies, grammar (several languages), the arts (music, dance, fine arts, etc.), mathematics, astronomy, astrology, plants & herbs, medicine (Ayurveda, Ayurvedic acupuncture, etc.), and surgery. Some of these, such as medicine, were taught for up to seven years before graduation.

TakshaShila’s famous researchers and teachers include: Panini (the great grammarian of Sanskrit); Kautilya, also known as Chanakya (king-maker, astute political advisor, and author of ArthaShastra, c. 300 BCE, deemed by social and economic historian Max Weber as one of the greatest political state-craft books of the ancient world); Charaka (the distinguished physician, whose research on the region’s flora and fauna described in his CharakaSamhita strengthened the development of Ayurveda); and Jivaka (the great physician to Gautama Buddha and his followers).
The archaeological site of Takshashila was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980.
